Hi, my name's Jules Evans, I'm a journalist, and am writing a book on social anxiety called The Wild Man: A Cultural History of Social Anxiety.
Social anxiety is the most common anxiety disorder, affecting around 10% of the western population, according to recent studies.
It makes people acutely worried about what others are thinking of them, leading to panic attacks, paranoia, avoidance of social situations, and very depleted social lives.
The good news is, it can be cured. I had the condition myself for around 5 years, and got better through CBT - cognitive behavioural therapy.
I'll be posting blogs where social anxiety has been mentioned in the news or where interesting research has come out. I hope you find the blog helpful - feel free to add comments or to email me on jjrevans@hotmail.com
